Journey to Destiny

The National Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress, NDC Mr. Sammy Gyamfi in a Facebook post shared his journey with destiny as he always prays for his classmates. “When I was in form 1 at secondary school, I wanted to be a lawyer; I had classmates who wanted to be engineers, journalists, pilots, economics, and radio show hosts just like Kwame Sefa Kayi, Kwame Adinkra among others.

Interestingly, we all had various desires to be something we felt was big in our estimation as adolescents.

Our first term was interesting, we started realizing that those from private schools who came with good grades were all over and speaking English fluently with high eloquence while we kept wondering whether we could match up to them in class.

While we strive to find our strength; one by one, we choose paths entering into the third term. Then gradually those who came from public schools started taking over the first to tenth position and were speaking fluently and lecturing the class in the absence of some teachers and in the presence of some teachers who were amazed at how clever these students were.

As time went by, Those who were aspiring to become doctors ended up in General Arts class and Visual Arts class. We ignorantly mocked them and called them ‘Woara Anka Wo Beba’ students.

Funny enough some pilots opted for doing business, and some didn’t even make it to Form 2.

Again, most of the General Arts students thought they’d be journalists, lawyers, teachers and what have you just because they were in the General Arts class.

The Business students could see themselves replacing Despite, Dr Kwame Kyei, Dr Kwaku Otrng among others.

Then the science students, even the worst of whom felt academically superior to all other courses’ students, saw themselves becoming doctors, scientists, and whatnot.

Then we completed SHS, and here we all are. We all started looking at the best ways to find food rather than the most glamorous ways.

Some had support and so kept going; others had none of that and so had to figure their way around life & still hustling & battling.

This is why I always remember my classmates in prayer”.
